UPDATE FROM VALLEJO! 10/21/14 Wow is all I can say to start this out. I arrived here Saturday around 5:30. I ended up in a shared room with 6...YES 6... Other people.....with my sensory problem of sound and light i had a very rough weekend and lots of my body thrashing as its how the brain goes into self preservation and starts shutting down I never went unconscious like the seizure episodes which i am so very grateful. By Tuesday morning i finally got a private room which is rare here but my body is so sore from the thrashing (aka crazy monkey dance) the dr requested one for me and they got a million stuttered thank yous lol Sunday night i went thru so many emotions of sad, hurt, mad, devastated and all in between. the most painful is having to let go of someone that was a dear friend and like a sister. I came to realize the relationship is never going to be as it was prior to this accident and was no longer healthy, positive or trusting. Emotional pain is often worse than physical pain. Physically i will heal but feelings dont ever go completely away. I have to accept we are both in a very different place since the accident. We went in opposite directions of healing and I have accepted thats ok. The positive lesson I have chosen to find in this ( took me a few days) is i am blessed to have had the friendship for the time I did. i read in a quote somewhere courage is having the ability to walk away from those things (or people) that no longer help you grow or be positive as an individual) it is courage because its painful, scary and just plain devastating but in those times I am grateful to have all of your support in my journey and prayers as well as knowing my heavenly father is listening to all the prayers! This accident has mentally and emotionally devastated others and I just have to accept not everyone has handled it the way I have and choose to continue doing.....positive thinking, faith and lots of prayers is my way, that does NOT mean it is their way! I believe many of you are probably much like me and love helping others....it is a challenge for me to walk away if I see a need but puting ourselves in emotional, financial, or physical danger trying to help others is not what the lord meant by help your fellow man. At a point those we are helping have to WANT to get better, have the drive to succeed, obtain the skills emotionally or physically to excel ....if you want it more than they want it for themselves how long are you willing to carry them up the steep Rocky Mountain on your back ...? I hope i am making sense....sometimes the best thing we can do for someone is to walk away and pray hard! Give your worries to the lord and let him handle things....what better way to help our fellow man than by honest sincere prayer for their wellbeing :) Please remember, you are an amazing, worthy, beautiful, talented person....dont be drug into someone elses negativity...misery loves company but dont let yourself loose the light you carry! ON A FUN NOTE! My dear friend Stephanee Zierke Hustrei took the time to make an awesome sweatshirt in my favorite color (teal). She had this awesome idea to do the sweatshirts as a fundraiser but also its a great way for you to spread the word of wearing your helmet...with winter coming you can stay warm and spread the word. The fact is i never in a million years thought my story would touch so many, help others in non horse related ways as well as helmets. By you wearing this sweatshirt you dont know who you may educate and possibly have an impact on. So far 9 have been purchased but its set up so at least 50 HAVE TO BE SOLD for the company to make them and ship out within the next 2 weeks! I know we can do it and keep spreading the word saving lives and educating others! As a side note if you are not in the USA the company does not ship international so please contact Stephanee hustrei and she will arrange purchase for you ! I will update more tomorrow as my brain is slowing down and i am typing with one eye to prevent my eyes from crossing ...did I mention how grateful I am for auto correct lol HUGE HIGS AND LOVE TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND HELPING SPREAD HELMET AWARENESS :) Love, Melissa Davis xoxo
