UPDATE:: First off, I have no news about Kristens legs and the direction they are going to take. We thought the dr. would come in tonight but now they say he will come tomorrow. However, a few new things have surfaced today that could use some prayer. The first is, Kristens heart rate has been elevated since she came off life support. The cardiologist had signed off on everything and Kristen thought they had moved on from any issues there. They called the cardiologist back in today and did an EKG of her heart and it is still fast. They are concerned about this because this could potentially cause an issue with one of the treatment options for her legs. (There are two options on the table for her legs right now. So if her heart rate causes issues she would only have one option which is heading straight in to surgery.) The second request is concerning her stay at the hospital. To participate in the treatment options for her leg she has to be an outpatient, but several of the drs. dont want her to leave this hospital just yet. They are wanting to monitor her and make sure there is no place that the infection could hide or make a reappearance. She wouldnt be going home as an outpatient but rather to another hospital or facility that can handle her rehabilitation and wound care of her legs. The third request is for Kristen, emotionally. Every time something like this happens she gets discouraged. How much time will this add to her stay in the hospital? What happens if surgery is her only option? How long will she be away from her family? It feels like one step forward, six steps back. In all of this I feel like God always provides a ray of hope, something Kristen can cling to. Yesterday, during the dressing of her legs, the wound nurse asked if Kristen could feel her touching her toes. Kristen said yes. The nurse then asked which toe, and Kristen was able to specifically tell her. This is good news because the nerve endings are waking up but this also means the dressing changes each day are much more painful. Kristen stood with the help of a machine SIX times today and she is able to sit in the chair for up to 5 hours. As many negative things a day holds, I have to constantly look at the positive and see that God is there providing grace to his daughter. He loves her incredibly more than I can fathom. He isnt just standing beside her but he is holding her through this. We continue to cling to Christ as that is the only thing we have. This whole situation is completely out of anyones control, but HIS.
