UPDATE Fri May 9/14 815amET Morning radar shows continuing heavy rainfall across portions of Puerto Rico, but especially across the Virgin Islands. Preliminary rainfall estimates show 9mm of rain has fallen in the last 12 hours at Julinana Airport St Maarten, 2mm at Golden Rock St Kitts, 2mm at LeRaizet Guadeloupe, 9 mm at VC Bird Int Airport in Antigua and 6mm as far south as Hewannora St Lucia. Satellite imagery show bands of cirrus, cirrostratus and middle level altocumulus clouds streaking across the skies in the Windward Islands. Generally speaking, altocumulus clouds are sign of instability in the atmosphere , at mid levels at any rate. Afternoon showers, in some spots heavy, cannot be ruled out. Winds are forecast to weaken greatly across the southern islands this weekend, bad news for sailing enthusiasts.
