UPDATE: Heres a detailed weather discussion for Sundays rain to snow system. HEAVY rain continues to come down in NWA, with the heaviest totals so far being over the I-540 and Hwy 412 corridor. Doppler radar indicated storm totals is over 3 of rain. Is anyone seeing localized flooding from this heavy rain in Johnson or near creeks/streams in Washington Co? I know weve been dry for a while, but the heavy rain rates could still lead to runoff and flooding. ***There is a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect for Carroll, Madison, Boone and Newton counties in AR and Barry county in SW Missouri for this afternoon into late tonight.*** Colder air is plunging southward right now (mid 30s in NWA). On the backside of this low pressure system there WILL BE a changeover to snow by this morning in Benton Co and a little after 10 AM in Washington Co. The total snow accumulation (ON GRASSY AREAS AND ELEVATED SURFACES) looks to be around 1 in Washington Co. BUT there will be localized heavier amounts around 2 to 3 along the MO/AR state border (especially eastern sections of NWA). Benton county can expect around 1 to 3. KEEP IN MIND, THIS WILL BE VERY WET SLUSHY SNOW AND ROADS WONT BECOME AN ISSUE (mainly slushy) WITH THE WET GROUND CONDITIONS. Temps will drop into the lower 20s by early Monday morning, so wet roads will freeze tonight as the sky clears and it gets much colder. Another big story will be the wind today. Wind gusts will exceed 30 mph with a blustery NNW wind. So to recap... heavy rain changes to a rain/snow mix by this morning and then eventually all snow by around noon for all areas. It will last until this evening. Expect around 1 to 3 of snow on grassy areas and elevated surfaces with the highest amounts along the AR/MO border. The temps drop quickly into the low 20s tonight, so watch out for slick bridges and overpasses due to black ice. Temps quickly warm up by Monday afternoon into the 50s, so not a crippling winter storm by any means. --Dan Skoff
