UPDATE: It is so exciting, in the midst of what feels like many low days to be able to celebrate the good days! After meeting with Cassies team of doctors we were told that we could not move forward with the transplant until all the markers of the autoimmune disease were no longer active in Cassies blood in order for a transplanted kidney to have the optimum chance of being successful. On Thursday, we met with Dr. Hoetzel, Cassies rheumatologist, aka Rockstar, and he said he would do another round of lab work to confirm but that he believed the antibodies were inactive and that he could greenlight Cassie to move ahead for a transplant. Yesterday, after receiving Cassies dialysis, doctors said that the lab work confirmed what Dr. Hoetzel had believed. The transplant team will be notified that Cassie has been greenlighted and will meet before the end of the month!! They will then give us instructions that we will then pass on to you, her family and friends, especially those who are willing to be screened as donors for our dear sweet Cassie.
