UPDATE: Katrina Beers has indeed been attempting to talk. Yesterday, she was making noises, not words, but grunts. She worked with the therapists, and they are trying to work on commands. She is trying to do the thumbs up with her hand, but so far (Ill take it!) has just been able to raise her arm up a little. Shes also been moving her head more, and has been lifting her left leg (the one that had to be surgically repaired). The trachea has been capped, and they are again talking about having that removed to make her more comfortable, and make it easier to start the speech therapy. Shes making amazing progress, and not only the family is thrilled, but the entire staff at Bryn Mawr is excited for her. Devin had a fortune cookie the other day, and it said something about the great wall of China and how it wasnt built in one day. It mentioned having patience. And Devin told Mammy that it had to do with his Mom. As much as we want her to talk, walk, and laugh again.... we know that it takes patience. And we will continue to have it as long as we need to. Katrina has shown us that the odds can and will be overcome. A month ago the Drs told us they werent sure if she would even wake up. And now look where she is.... God is good.
