Washing machine repairman William Spedding, 63, walked into Port Macquarie police station to speak briefly to officers on Friday morning before leaving a short time later. When asked if he had anything to do with the disappearance of the three-year-old, Mr Spedding said, No. The toddler vanished from his grandmothers backyard in the town of Kendall on September 12. The tradesmans house in the town of Bonny Hills and his business in the nearby town of Laurieton were raided by police this week after it emerged he had been hired to do repairs at the house from which William disappeared. excavator and drained a septic tank during the 48-hour search of his semi-rural property in Wandoo Place, which concluded on Wednesday night. Mr Spedding and his wife have been unable to go back to their house and have been staying with friends since police began searching on Tuesday. His denial of any involvement comes after two of his children have saidthey do not believe their father had anything to do with the toddlers disappearance. Mr Spedding told the Nine Network the ordeal had been very difficult. I wish to thank our family, our friends for the overwhelming support we have received, he said. Channel Nine reporter Chris OKeefe told 2GB on Friday that Mr Spedding and his wife, Margaret, were on the verge of having nervous breakdowns. He [Mr Spedding] wholeheartedly denies any involvement whatsoever in little Williams disappearance, OKeefe said. He was on the verge of breaking down the entire interview. He said this is unbelievable for him, he was just so overwhelmed. He said he had received a lot of support from his family all over the country. He wouldnt go into any specifics about where he was that day or any of the timeline surrounding where he was at the exact time William disappeared. He said he had to seek legal advice ... but they did say both him and Margaret are on the verge of nervous breakdowns and, really, their life has been somewhat ruined. Van seen at search Mr Speddings van was spotted at the scene of the massive manhunt for the missing toddler in Kendall last year, AAP reports. Mr Spedding visited the home of Williams grandmother four days before the boys disappearance after a request to repair a washing machine. A close friend, Colin, said Mr Spedding did not return to the grandmothers house with a spare part for the washing machine on the day William went missing because he could not get in contact with her. Williams mother told Mr Spedding in a phone call on the afternoon of September 12 that he would not be able to come around that day. It is understood that, in the days after William disappeared, and as hundreds of volunteers searched for the toddler in surrounding bushland, Mr Speddings work van was spotted in the street outside Williams grandmothers home. It stood among police and emergency services cars. Colin said Mr Spedding then went to the Buzz Cafe in Laurieton for a coffee with his wife before he went to an awards ceremony for his grandson at a primary school across the road. Cafe staff say detectives have visited twice in the past few days as they attempt to verify Mr Speddings movements. Colin said he had downloaded a copy of Mr Speddings bank card statement, which showed a purchase at the cafe about 10am on September 12. Police have said Mr Spedding is not a suspect in Williams disappearance. Police seized a mattress and a computer among other items in the search of Mr Speddings home, pawnbroker business and unit in the nearby town of Laurieton this week. The items will go through forensic examination. Police tape was removed from Mr Speddings home on Thursday. Mr Spedding has been staying in Port Macquarie, even though police have cleared the way for him and his family to return to their property.
