UPDATE: Manny had a successful surgery today where they put in a stomach tube and took out the feeding tube from his nose. His fevers have dissipated and he seems to be in fairly good shape and good spirits (when he comes through the sedation). They are watching his blood counts just to be sure they will give him a transfusion if he needs one and the TB test results should come back on Tuesday if not sooner. *fingers crossed* Until then he is in isolation which basically means we have to wear masks at all times and keep the doors shut. While watching him this evening I realized that they have done procedures from head to toe on him- nose, mouth, throat, chest, right arm, left arm, stomach, feet, foley catheter area, etc. BUT I am feeling grateful. Not just because these are all procedures which make it possible for him to keep surviving, but because he smiled a good deal today showing that his sense of humor and personality, despite the setbacks, are in tact. What an amazing man!
