UPDATE: Missing Snowmobiler Found Safe FRANKLIN BASIN, Utah – December 29, 2014 Lawrence Orduno, the missing snowmobiler, has been found safe. Search and rescue crews from Cache, Rich, Box Elder, and Franklin counties resumed their search early this morning. Just before 10 o’clock, one of the six rescue crews found Mr. Orduno in the Cow Canyon area. Mr. Orduno was cold and wet but in relatively good condition. He was medically evaluated and then released to family members. Although he suffered mild frostbite to one of his toes, he is expected to make a full recovery. The area of Cow Canyon was covered in heavy snow and the crews had difficulty reaching Mr. Orduno. When he was found, Mr. Orduno had formed a small, crude shelter using the hood of his snowmobile but was unable to maintain a fire. Mr. Orduno was off the trail, and due to his circumstances had made the decision to wait for assistance. The successful rescue of Mr. Orduno was due to the combined efforts of Search and Rescue volunteers from Cache, Rich, Box Elder and Franklin counties. The Cache County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind outdoor enthusiasts to please recreate safely. Weather and light conditions should be considered when making your plans. ###
