UPDATE ON ACCESS TO EAGLE TERRACE: Work at Elk Run Boulevard and - TopicsExpress

UPDATE ON ACCESS TO EAGLE TERRACE: Work at Elk Run Boulevard and Benchlands Trail will continue for the next few weeks. The work required on this road has been significant and many challenges have led to the project taking longer than anticipated. The water main under the road was exposed during the flooding. Since the flood, the businesses near Benchlands have been using a temporary water service. We had to excavate, cut out, and replace the water main. Once repaired, we worked with EPCOR to flush, pressure test, chlorinate, flush again, and test samples from the new main. The permanent main is now connected. In addition, all the gas lines have had to be repaired. This work was completed late last week. We are now working on the sewer lines, but have experienced supplier delays with sewer pipe shipments. Storm mains downstream of the visible damage have been severely impacted by large rocks and debris, so there is additional work required to clear the sewer mains. All to say, it is a big project. It may look like the road is “ready” if you walk or drive by, but much work under and connected to the road still needs to be done. We have considered opening the road for temporary access, but it is very difficult to schedule. We would have to close it for hours or days on end, most times unpredictably, due to the complexity of the work and delivery of needed materials. Curb and gutter work is planned after all repairs are done. The concrete in that repaired curb cannot sustain vehicle loads until it cures for several days. During that cure time, we will be bringing the road works up to final grade and then paving. The only way to truly “bypass” the area where crews are working would be to run the temporary bypass across private property, which we obviously are not going to do. This type of surface work is weather dependent, so much scheduling is beyond our control. We are working with Fire and EMS to allow emergency access with minimal delays if required. On behalf of council and the town, continued thanks for your patience and understanding are extended to residents of Eagle Terrace and Silvertip. As soon as we can officially open the new road, we will.
