UPDATE ON BENTLEY: First off, thank you for all of your referrals to Dr. Ballagas! He is wonderful and I feel great about Bentleys future! After sending his x-rays over to several different vets that perform orthopedic surgeries regularly, no one would touch him due to the severity of his case. Every single one of them did refer us to Veterinarian Surgery of Birmingham. Dr Ballagas came highly recommended by all! With a broken pelvis, 2 shattered femurs, a broken femural head and a dislocated hip, we wanted the best.. and Dr. Ballagas is it!! After an examination and reviewing his x-rays, Dr. B has suggested that we not only do the syrgery, but have it done fast! He like the rest, was absolutely amazed that Bentley was even walking! He is without a doubt a fighter and his will to live is admirable! He has a surgery set and scheduled for this Thursday Jan 8th, where Dr. B will put a plate in on his right femur, a pin in his left femur and perform an FHO on his femural head. With the callus formation that has developed, we have been told that at only 4 months, Bentley has been suffering with this for several weeks. He will be on strict bed rest for the first 6 weeks and then we will begin rehabilitation during the next 6 weeks. He has a long road ahead of him, but I am going to do exhaust all means in order to see him through to his new life! I do not ask for help often, but I am asking for help now. This surgery is going to cost approximately $3,500.00 which about $1,700.00 needs to be paid up front the day of surgery. Every penny matters and every dollar counts! Dana Darby has kindly stepped up to help this sweet baby, and we will be having a bake and crafts sale within the next few weeks as well to help pay for this surgery. We will need baked goods and other crafts for this event, so for those who like to participate, please let us know! If you can not donate, please share! Unfortunately, I found out the specialist we are using does not take donations by phone less that $500, so we will be posting all expense reports and constant updates on his recovery!
