UPDATE ON DAD: I was told to get to the hospital right away this morning. While things looked okay last night, but not necessarily improving, things went sour overnight. At about 2am, he needed to be intubated, and by 8am he was put on life support. He was not able to breathe on his own and his blood pressure was falling quickly. My brother and I were told to get to the hospital right away. It really looked like this was it, but God IS a God of miracles. A central IV line was inserted into the right side of his heart and the meds given that way syabilized his heart. The surgical drain was filling with bile at a frightening rate. The surgeon suctioned a liter of fluid, but it was returning fast. There was a big concern that he had a perforated duodenum. Thank you, God, that was not the case! A CT scan showed that the biliary stent was again displaced, causing bile to back up and blow out the sutures in the cystic duct (where the gall bladder came out). The team agreed that he could not survive a second surgery to repair the leak, so a PTC procedure was just done to install a drain through the liver, directly into the duct the tumor blocked off. Praise God, he made it through this part. Eventually, the leak should seal itself with the drain releasing pressure. The PTC went very well, a catheter was inserted through the blockage so it is above and below the.blockage and a feeding tube was inserted at the same time. He will be able to get nutrition now. But, the next 12 to 24 hours, maybe 48, will be critical for him. It is not known what direction he will take but we are hoping and praying he will improve. We were told to prepare ourselves, as tomorrow, we may need to talk to the palliative care team. Lord, minister with strength, peace and healing here.
