UPDATE ON LITTLE BABY FAT-FAT (aka WILBUR) Wilbur went to the vet on Thursday. He is definitely overweight - he weighs over 10 pounds. At 9 months of age, Wilbur should really weigh 6-7 pounds. Wilbur does have hip dysplasia in his rear left hip. Hip dysplasia is a congenital condition that comes about when line breeding is done (mother to son, daughter to father, sister to brother). There is no treatment or cure for hip dysplasia. But its normally not a big issue for cats as long as their weight is kept under control (being overweight puts too much pressure on the joints). It can result in early on-set arthritis in that joint - that can be managed with supplements & pain meds. But thats usually years down the road. Basically Wilbur needs to loose weight - which he will do now that hes eating a grain-free food. And his adopter will absolutely need to keep him on a grain-free diet. Otherwise Little Baby Fat-Fat is a healthy baby! =) Beth
