UPDATE ON NEW ALBUM OF LINKIN PARK: Mike Shinoda on Linkin Parks new album: Almost a prequel to Hybrid Theory According to a piece by Loudwire, Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson talked about how fans have been comparing their new single to their first couple albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora, and even quoted Linkin Park vocalist, Mike Shinoda, as saying this next album is more like a prequel to Hybrid Theory than anything. I’ve heard people say about ‘Guilty All the Same,’ ‘Oh, it sounds like their older stuff,’ ‘cause it’s really heavy. But it’s not really like anything we’ve done, either. The heaviness of the track, and of what you’ll hear on other songs on the album, comes from a raw, visceral place, but it sounds distinctly its own as far as our musical history. I thought this was kind of funny: Mike [Shinoda] actually described it almost a prequel to ‘Hybrid Theory.’ There’s a lot of records that were influential to us — some hardcore stuff, some heavy, punk-oriented stuff — and that spirit is there. It’s like the record we might have made had we not made ‘Hybrid Theory.’ It definitely goes down a different path, and it is guitar driven — that’s not an accident, Delson said. If youve listened to Linkin Parks newest single, then you can very quickly identify how much of an emphasis is placed on the guitar. Since it is just a taste of what the entire album will be like, Linkin Park fans should be excited for what well be getting. Linkin Park has had some pretty epic guitar solos, the best of which is arguably the open guitar rip in the song Faint. Any fan would probably hold that solo up as one of the best the group has ever done.
