UPDATE ON SOLAR ACTIVITY: We will make it through this one!!! THE SECOND CME HAS ARRIVED: For the second time today, a CME has hit Earths magnetic field. As a result of the impact, a moderate G2-class geomagnetic storm is underway. The storm could intensify further as Earth passes through the gusty wake of the CME, but probably not enough to cause power outages or communications blackouts. Earth is going to weather this event with few if any negative side-effects. Meanwhile, high latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras. Last check of solar wind speeds indicated 23.3 protons per cubic centimeter, speeds was 636 kilometers per second. We will pass through its wake but not get the primary header of the gust front of the cloud sent from the Sun. So far all Ive seen is some satellite issues but no real voltage or current variations beyond the normal. Monitoring should continue but for now its looking very good.
