UPDATE ON TYPHOON 1422 HAGUPIT 12/7@06PST There is this eerie silence in Metro Manila i.e. moderate breeze and no rain as super typhoon Hagupit weakens to -200 kph near the center/vortex with reduced storm radius of -300 kph after making land fall in Eastern Samar last night. There is a big sign of relief as the storm center/vortex veers away from ploughing through Bicol, Southern Luzon and Metro Manila as forecasted by US JWIT +24 hours ago. The typhoon appears to be following the JMA track towards Central Visayas in the past 12 hours after land fall in Eastern Samar. JMA forecasted land fall between Eastern Samar and Surigao City +48 hours ago. Hagupit veered on a northwesterly course in the hours that followed and now moving towards Palawan. The variables in weather forecasting are far too many, and while tremendous advances have been achieved in terms of science and applied technologies, 3-days forecast is +70% accurate at best. JWIT based in Hawaii is operated independently by the US with multi agency support from NOAA, NASA and the US Navy. Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is a UN accredited regional weather monitoring and forecasting agency. Both agencies, JWIT and JMA, provide reliable satellite-based weather information system which serves as benchmarks for the Asia-Pacific region. JWIT-NOAA-NASA has more advance technologies but is spread globally, while JMA is focused in the Asia Pacific region. As for DOST-PAGASA ah eh... Naka tsamba sa land fall ! ;-) Visit jma.go.JP/en/typh/ for weather updates.
