UPDATE: One small step medically, one MASSIVE step for BOB. They have removed sedation and installed the trach. He is not as physically active but his eyes are almost totally open! I even think he attempted to smile at me!!! I felt a trace of L hand flexors (squeeze my hand) on command, slowly but on command. Theyve already lowered the trach settings (amount of work the machine has to do for my dad to breathe)! So this is a small step but a grand one! They seem to think he will keep waking up but a Dr. finally addressed possible deficits from the multiple strokes. Because of where they are in the brain (frontal lobe and temporal-occipital) its possible for him to have visual deficits and personality changes. These may resolve with time or they may be permanent. However, with his age and activity we are confident any of these things will resolve.
