UPDATE: Operation Stack remains in place today – Saturday 24 January – to manage on-going issues with freight traffic in the county. Phase Two of Operation Stack was put in place to manage freight traffic on the county’s roads, which has seen non-freight traffic diverted onto the A20 from Junction 8 at Hollingbourne. Motorists planning on using the coast bound carriageway of the M20 are warned to anticipate delays as Operation Stack continues. The number of vehicles contained within Operation Stack has reduced, but agencies including Kent Police, The Highways Agency, Eurotunnel and the Port of Dover continue to liaise to assess the amount of freight traffic that is able to leave the county as additional freight traffic joins the queue. Kent Police continues to support the Highways Agency and other partner agencies, including the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel, to deal with the issue. A significant amount of multi-agency work is being carried out to try and keep the travelling public moving. The public are thanked for their patience whilst this incident is being resolved. Drivers who are planning journeys towards the coast are urged to consider alternative routes and plan for as much time as possible. Contact your travel operator before setting off on your journey.
