UPDATE: POUND REPORT SATURDAY 11th When we went to the pound - TopicsExpress

UPDATE: POUND REPORT SATURDAY 11th When we went to the pound earlier on in the week (Tuesday 7th) we had a suspicion that there was another dog in the pound that was neither out in the runs nor in the register. We could hear barking from the back area of the pound. This would mean this dog was a surrender - the pound staff do not record surrenders into the book that we see. When a surrendered dog enters the pound unless they are put out in the runs in the public viewing gallery we have no idea of them being in the pound. Wicklow Pound deny that there is a second book with surrenders recorded in it. Dogs that are surrendered can be PTS within 24 hours as no owner is looking for them. They can however be rehomed too..... When we went to do our report on Friday 10th we could hear a dog barking from the back run. It confirmed our earlier suspicions that there was another dog in the pound that we could not see and was not marked into the book/register. When we asked the kennel hand about this barking we were told it was the dog that had just been handed in (as noted in our report) and was not yet processed. We were rather sceptical that this was the dog we heard but had no choice but to accept this information. Feeling unsatisfied with the response given to our questions we decided to attend the pound again the next day so here is the report from the following day Saturday 11th…….. Pound Visit Saturday 11th October: Three photos on the door, Bill, Bob and Ben. While taking photos of the dogs, we could hear very loud barking noises from inside. We did have a feeling last week that there was another dog there that we couldnt see. After finishing taking the photos we went to get into the office and the door was locked, so we knocked to get in. The dog warden was on the phone so we had to wait over 10 minutes before he came to the door. The door was barely opened and I said I would like to see the register please, then he let me in. As suspected there was only the three dogs out in the runs in the book. I went to the hatch and asked him could I ask a question? His replied was yes, and started to write his notes, so I waited .... he looked up and waited for me to ask my question. I then realised he wasnt going to come to the hatch for my question so I had to ask him through the closed glass window while he sat on his chair across the other side of the office. I said I can hear a dog out the back barking, is it a surrender, the reply was yes. So I asked will it be available for rehoming and was told its been assessed. I asked could you tell me the breed of the dog but that information was denied to me. I just hope that members of the public looking to rehome a dog doesnt get the cold hostile reception we got.
