UPDATE September 20,2013 12:00 p.m. The *NO Flush Limited Water Use Order is still in effect at this time until further notice. Jim Allen, the Public Works director would like to thank the public for cooperating with the No Flush and Limited Water Use order. It is critical to follow this order to ensure progress is being made. They acknowledge that it has been a difficult time for all residents but are working diligently to assess and resolve the water waste/sewage issues. The latest road information is that Hwy 138 is open with no detours. Hwy 6 is now open in both directions one lane each direction. We ask that traffic does not stop or slow down to look at the river. We need to keep traffic flowing with only one lane available and to avoid accidents. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Division have confirmed that shower/laundry service is available at North Sterling Reservoir. Showers are 75 cents for the first 3 minutes and 25 cents for each additional minute. Please bring enough quarters with you in case change is not available. R.V.’s are able to dump their waste at no charge. There is no charge to enter the park. The Bulk Distribution Center located at the Logan County Fairgrounds is open today from 8:00a.m-8:00p.m. This is located on the South end under the grandstands. Hours of operation are Mondays-Saturdays 8:00 a.m-8:00 p.m. Sundays 8:00a.m.-6:00 p.m. There will not be any food or clothing provided. Bulk items such as flood/home clean up kits, toilet paper, cases of water, personal wipes and other bulk items. If needing information on donating items please contact United Way at 211. The Red Cross reports there are currently 9 people at the shelter. Meals are being provided by the Salvation Army at the Middle School. City sanitation trucks are running at this time. The sanitation department is working towards resuming a normal schedule. It is vital that ONLY human waste materials are discarded in the dumpsters provided at Pioneer softball field located on Hwy 14 and Ball Park Road. The dumpsters are being transported to Brush for disposal. There are approximately 600 portalets located around the community. According to Bob Owens, Logan County Emergency Manager, there is preliminary information regarding damages in Logan County. There are 180 residences affected by the flood. The numbers are broken down as follows; 15 homes destroyed. 18 regular homes with major damages. 57 regular homes with minor damages. 75 accessory structures/private property with minor damages. 15 mobile homes with minor damages. Information on physical damage to businesses is unknown at this time. There are 73 miles of asphalt and dirt roads that are currently compromised. It is unknown at this time the severity due to the water level. All of the main bridges are compromised, those are 8 state bridges and 1 county bridge . Sterling Regional Medical Center is fully functional and the clinic is open with normal hours. There has been a Federal Assistance Team providing support to our state agencies. The Colorado Division of Homeland Security Logan County Office of Emergency Management along with the Division of Fire Protection and Control, Department of Corrections, CDOT and the Colorado State Patrol are providing support to our local agencies. The Salvation Army and Red Cross is providing services and support to the public. This has been a great collaborative effort among all of these entities to help the residents of Logan County.
