UPDATE: So today we had our first official appointments at Frankston! We began with a midwife appointment which was good! Very straight forward, getting paper work sorted! Still, the midwife was lovely and we had no complaints! We then went and had lunch for an hour and came back for our OB appointment! In a nutshell, we couldnt have asked for a better specialist! Dr Griffin was her name and she deals with all high risk situations, so she was completely on the ball! Basically the first plan of attack is to run more blood tests to rule out any other issues! Pre-eclampsia being one (which is VERY unlikely due to no other symptoms) and also an auto immune disease! She spoke also with a hematologist to discuss the best plan of action! All we are doing now is monitoring things with regular blood tests to make sure those levels dont jump back down further! Its very possible that this could happen she said as they were steadily declining and the increase in levels could just be a slight spike before the decline continues! If the levels do fall back down again, Chels will start on steroids to hopefully pick the levels back up again or at least stop them from crashing any further! Induction wont be occurring just yet, if at all! Basically the BEST outcome if for Chels to go into labor naturally as its poses the lowest threat for things going wrong! Inducing increases the chances of having a c-section and thats the last thing they want to happen- surgery posing an even bigger hemorrhage risk! Of course though, if Chelseas platelet levels continue to fall it then makes sense to induce- to not let those levels drop to even most more dangerous levels! So, its a weigh it up as it happens kind of scenario! What we were told was that as soon as Chelseas labor begins, we head straight on in to the hospital! No laboring at home, which we gathered! As soon as she arrives they will put an IV in and have her bloods on standby ready to go! She will have a blood test and will meet with the anesthetist asap when she arrives to discuss epidural possibilities! As long as the platelets stay at the levels they are currently at (91) it SHOULD be fine! Anything lower than 80 will rule an epidural out! Thus, should she also need a c-section and the levels were under 80 she would have to have a general anesthetic which would be both scary and sad! Still, we must keep our eye on the moment and take things day by day- as that is what the doctors are doing! We head back for further blood tests next Wednesday, followed by another appointment with the high risk OB on Thursday! And from there things will be assessed again! So, its baby steps at the moment friends! No rushing the gun with big interventions, but also not taking things lightly either! Something else that is now not going to happen is the placenta encapsulation, and not even because of this pregnancy! Having a partial molar pregnancy three years ago warrants the placenta go straight to pathology for testing! There is a higher risk for abnormalities to the placenta because of the partial molar So, we are simply wiping it off the table! Im sure they could just take a piece of the placenta to test, but we dont even want to muck around with anything like that considering Chelseas situation! Its a shame, but we have enough to focus on with this issue, let alone worrying if the placenta is fit for encapsulation! So, there you have it friends! A length update, with lots of possibilities, but only one thing we are really sure of- head straight to the hospital when labor begins! We will of course know more next week and see if the plan needs to change depending on the blood results! The wait continues.....
