UPDATE TO SPRING POTHOLE BLITZ: CITY USES MORE ASPHALT – 203* - TopicsExpress

UPDATE TO SPRING POTHOLE BLITZ: CITY USES MORE ASPHALT – 203* DUMP TRUCK LOADS Due to the significant number of potholes present this spring on the roadways after the harsh winter conditions, the City allocated an increase in funding and resources to tackle the pothole issue through an enhanced and aggressive Spring Pothole Blitz. This made it easier for people to move around the city this spring and summer. In addition to the August 15 News Release, which presented the numbers of potholes filled, calculations have been made to determine the amounts of asphalt mix tonnage used during the same time frame in 2012 and 2013. These numbers are: · 2012 – 1770 tonnes of asphalt, or 80 dump truck loads · 2013 – 2482 tonnes of asphalt, or 113 dump truck loads & 1970 tonnes of asphalt, or 90 dump truck loads, for blade patching This equates to 4452 tonnes of asphalt, or 203 dump truck loads full of asphalt mix that went on Saskatoon roads this spring. The success of this year’s enhanced and aggressive blitz approach to the spring pothole program can be attributed to a number of factors, including increasing the number of contractor assisted pothole patching and blade patch crews. The City would like to thank all civic and contractor staff who worked tirelessly to help ensure that the 2013 Spring Pothole Blitz ran smoothly and effectively. A similar approach is planned for next spring. * The number of total dump truck loads reported in the August 15 PSA “Spring Pothole Blitz Uses 90 Dump Trucks Worth of Asphalt Mix!” was inaccurate, please use the number provided in this PSA.
