UPDATE on Erin : Today is another memorable moment. It marks 2 months since Erins surgery took place. We are so happy and lucky that Erin is here with us today and making the progress that she is. 2 months ago, Erin was completely unable to move her left side arm and leg. Today, she is now walking on her own with a cane short distances. The doctors still want someone with her at all times for guidance while she is walking. This is to prevent her from falling and injuring herself with the bone flap still being out. If she will be out of the house and needing to get around, she will still use her wheelchair. Erins arm is also making great progress. Her strength is getting stronger everyday, she is now able to lift a 2 lb weight with her left arm. She can also lift her arm above her head and her grasp is greatly improving. This past week, Erin had therapy 4 different days. She really enjoys her new therapists but isnt too thrilled above the 45 min drive there. Erin has always been so easy to get car sick while riding in vechicles. During Fridays occupatinal therapy session, they took her into a room that essentially resembles a house. In here they work with patients and activities they need to do in a home. Previously they worked with learning to fold laundry. On Friday, Erin got to bake chocolate chip cookies. This was a very impressive and reassuring therapy session. Erin was able to do EVERYTHING on her OWN!! She got the ingredients from various spots in the kitchen and mixed everything in a bowl. She then put her cookie dough on the cookie sheet and walked the pan to the oven and opened it with her left hand. After baking the cookies she even cleaned up by washing and drying the dishes. She looked so natural and comfortable doing this. Erin said it was one of her favorite therapy sessions thus far. She was able to bring the cookies home and share them with family and friends. Being home is so relaxing and encouraging for Erin. She seems much more happier and positive being here. Home is truely a wonderful place to be. Today Erin got to go out and watch Bryces bean bag tourny. She was able to stay for a few hours before having to come home. Its great to get her out of the house for a change of scenery every once in a while. Erin will continue this next week with 4 days of therapy again. Wednesday is a big day. She has her OB appointment scheduled this day. Erin and Bryce are ecstatic for this day :) Erin is continuing to become more mischievous around the house. She will get up and start walking around without waiting for us to help her out. Yesterday while walking up the stairs she did a small leap at the last stair and gave a small smirk. Of course this makes all of us extremely nervous and anxious watching her doing this but she feels so independent being able to get around on her own. Erin will continue to work hard to regain her strength in her left arm so she is able to care for baby K when he or she gets here. Even miracles take a little bit of time. You are truely a miracle Erin. It will take time but you will get there :) keep impressing us all with your improvements. Its fun and exciting to see your progress daily and to see how happy you are!
