UPDATE on yesterdays teen letter (about the girl who felt so sad because her bestie was losing interest.) and asked me how she could save the friendship. Dear Sad, If “save” means to turn back the clock to the time when you and your friend only wanted to be with each other, you may not be able to “save” this relationship from a third person. Sometimes the feelings of the people we are close to change… or our feelings for them change. Sometimes it is best to accept that emotions and feelings of friendship and closeness are like waves… You can get hurt and angry at these changes, but that won’t stop them from coming… like the waves, one after the other… when you least expect them. My best advice, since you’ve already spoken to your friend about your feelings is to sit yourself down with a piece of paper and a pen. Make a list of all the things that you are looking for in a good friend. For example, you might put these items on your list: Loyal, kind, respectful… etc. After you make your list, make a second list. On this one you should list all of the things YOU have to offer to a friend. List your best qualities. After you’ve made both lists, go shopping for a new friend. You will find the kind of friend who wants to be with you as much as you want to be with her. I hope this helps. In friendship, Terra
