UPDATED BIO 09/17/2014: hi everyone! Im Mushu! Im a 3 year old 4 lb little nugget (whats a nugget? Thats what foster mom calls me. She smiles when she calls me that so I guess its a good thing!). Im being fostered in Miami, FL. When I was rescued, I couldnt even move my legs. I would trip and fall all over the place. I was started on a steroid called prednisone and got better. The Dogtor told my foster mom to wean the steroids. That didnt work so well. I went to see a specialist who deals with doggy brains (a veterinary neurologist). He told my FM to give MORE steroids and we would wean later. Let me tell you, I am LOVING my steroids!! I am walking so well. Im hardly ever bumping into anything or falling down. The Neurologist really wants me to have an MRI to make sure I dont have a tumor, but he said he does suspect Yorkie encephalitis. I would have it forever and manage my symptoms with immunosuppressants like Prednisone. Since this type of encephalitis isnt infectious, they call it auto-immune. I take medicines like steroids to suppress my body from causing inflammation in my brain. I dont understand all that jargon, but I do know I am feeling like a million bucks. Im even giving FM kisses!! The doggie neurologist told my foster mom that there is another medication that he could give me if its encephalitis. However, without the MRI, we wont know what I have. The only problem is an MRI for a little guy like me costs $2000 even with the rescue discount. He doesnt want to give the medication if its not encephalitis because of possible side effects. I guess for now we will see how everything goes on my steroids. I am feeling awesome and looking even better. Sending lots of Yorkie love to all the people who have been sending pawsitive thoughts my way. Also, thank you so much for any donations you have sent for me. Thanks for saving me, UYR, and thanks for everyone who is helping me! To view a video of Mushu walking, click our Fundraiser link below.
