UPDATED STATUS ON ALLENS HEALTH: I will be posting Allen’s current condition each week or as I get new information from the medical specialist to keep everyone informed because he has a long road to travel. As I’ve already told you, against all doctor & nurses recommendations, the insurance sent Allen home early. Allen is on oxygen & a tens unit & only uses a cane to walk every now and then. He has breathing exercises & physical therapy exercises to do. We have given up on getting home health aide because it seems that it’s just not going to happen. Allen has now been diagnosed with PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury. All of Allen’s home health providers are on their last week this week. We went yesterday to do a 6-10 brain assessment to see how bad his brain injury is & get more info on it but Allen could only handle 3 hours and then the Doctor said he will need intensive out-patient OT, PT, & speech therapy before he can finish the assessment in about 3 months. Allen’s PCP is an awesome woman & is doing everything she can to get Allen all of the care he needs. He is seeing a counselor that works with his PCP and we were able to get him into the Neuropsychiatry-Mental Health Center for an evaluation and he will be doing out-patient therapy there as well. Allen’s depression is still getting worse so hopefully it will get better being treated by the counselor and this out-patient program. The results on his MRI liver were good. Allen has seen a pulmonologist and they are going to continue care on him because his oxygen is not where it needs to be. He has seen a neurologist, ophthalmologist, general surgeon, hepotologist, urologist, pulmonologist, and has many procedures such as MRI, CT scans, nerve testing, etc. to be done. Allen has no short term memory, hallucinations, depression, & cant function on his own because he can’t remember what he is doing & can’t remember how to do every day things and he is home bound. On a good note, his x-ray tests came back for his ribs & lungs & they show slight improvement. He is in constant pain and doesnt think he will ever get better. Allen’s recovery time is estimated to be a minimum of one year. Allen still needs to see an orthopedic surgeon. His urologist put him on some medications because he is having problems urinating, the medication isn’t working so we will do an ultrasound & find out what is keeping him from being able to urinate. His heart rate has been very high between 98-120. My only problem with this is that we don’t have mental health coverage. I’ve had to leave work a lot of times these last few weeks because of Allen’s brain damage and his PTSD kicks in, he gets scared & freaked out, cries a lot, and now he is having seizures. Please take 30 seconds to SHARE this post so I can keep everyone updated on his progress. If you want to see photos of how the accident affected Allen you can go to my Facebook Oct 8th post. Due to ongoing expenses of medical treatment not covered by insurance, legal bills, and every day expenses a fund has been established by Allen’s sister.
