UPDATES from our awesome Douglas Brown of Global Uplift, Inc. in LAWAAN, EASTERN SAMAR [March 18, 2014] Hi all, The impressive pace of clearing, building, and burning continues. They are building a plant nursery out here in the jungle. Amazing construction technology for such primitive tools. The camp furniture is made from coco lumber cut with a chainsaw. The rest of the frames are an ingenious use of 2 inch sticks. Very sturdy. They are also building 2 Comfort Rooms (CR). They have to hand dig to a depth of 6 feet. A hand dog well is under way and the work on the piggery continues. On man told me in broken English that this is the first farm on Eastern Samar. The sense of pride in him is huge. They all feel this way. It feels so wonderful to be a part of something so much bigger than our selves. Everyone is beginning to be able to visualize the farm. Soon the specialists will be here to advise on crops, soil preparation, and planting. It is all extremely rewarding for us. Love to all. Doug Brown of Global Uplift, Inc.
