UPU Sanctions Amori, Igbuya, Magege, Others Over Anti-Urhobo Activities The apex organization of Urhobo nation, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has placed sanctions on prominent urhobo indigenes in person of Chief Ighoyota Amori, Chief Olori Magege, Monday Igbuya and Ben Ibakpa among others for allegedly sabotaging the decision of ‘Uvwiamuge Declaration”. Making the pronouncement recently during a press conference in Warri, Delta State, President- General of Urhobo Progress Union, Chief Joe Omene accused the above named person for working against the interest of Urhobo nation by deliberately flouting the decision reached by entire Urhobo Nation at Uvwiamuge. “With respect to the above named persons, they are hereby sanctioned for the time being pending when they purge themselves of their actions against the Urhobo Nation. The extent of the sanctions placed on them is contained in the Vanguard Newspaper publication in October, 2014 edition as well as other Urhobo local papers also published within October, 2014,” Omene affirmed. He accused Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan of slighting the Urhobos by not only imposing a Delta North candidate on the people, but had intimated and cowed some Urhobo sons in his Government and the PDP notably among them are Chief Ighoyota Amori, Ben Ibakpa, Monday Igbuya and Olori Magege among others to work against the interest of the Urhobo nation by deliberately flouting the decision reached by entire Urhobo Nation at Uvwiamuge. “It has become obvious and clear to the Urhobo Nation that the Governor has not only resolved not to allow the Urhobo Nation get the Governorship ticket of PDP in Delta State, but had gone ahead to anoint a Delta North Aspirant as his successor. “To actualize this, he collaborated with the Former State Chairman of PDP to deny the State Deputy Chairman of the party in the state after the incumbent Chief Nwaboshi resigned from the position to enable him contest for the Delta North Senatorial Seat. It was the timely intervention of the National Working Committee of PDP that reversed the decision of the Governor. “He totally slighted and disrespected the No. 2 citizen of Delta State, the Deputy Governor who is an Urhobo man in all his actions especially towards 2015 despite the Deputy Governor’s absolute and unalloyed loyalty and respect for almost 8 years now,” Omene disclosed. It would be recalled that UPU resolved earlier this year in a meeting at Uvwiamuge that Urhobo must produce the governor of Delta State come 2015. They stated in the meeting that in a situation whereby PDP fail to produce an Urhobo indigene as its governorship candidate they would move enmass to garner their massive support for another party who will produce an Urhobo as its candidate. They equally agreed to move against Urhobo indigenes who sabotage their general consensus which had become known as ‘Uvwiamuge Declaration’.
