UQ SENATOR WORRIED ABOUT UQ’s LACK OF INTEGRITY ON ELECTIONS Elected UQ Senator, John Humphries, has raised concerns about the conduct of the electoral process. After the debacle that was last year’s election; UQU and UQ agreed that an electoral charter would be produced for the student union so a repeat would be avoided. According to the Chief Operating Officer such a charter draft would most likely be available just days prior to the 2013 election. However, a draft was released on the 14th of July. The final and effective copy which would provide transparency has still not passed or been published. This has made the corner stone change to improve transparency of the UQU elections redundant. John Humphries has called upon the Chancellor, Deputy Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and the Chief Operating Officer of UQ asking them to delay the current UQ Union election until the necessary changes have been made. Such complications have already been seen with allegations from opposition tickets and Democracy 4 UQU that only 72 hours was given for the completion of nominations. As a result of this the Vote LIFT for UQU ticket was pushed ‘below the line.’ This came on top of an unusually early election. If you wish to provide feedback on the draft charter, please see the link below. uqu.au/filelib/Election-Campaign-Charter-draft.pdf
