URGENT APPEAL: Can you help us find those responsible for assaulting a man in Smallthorne? Local officers are urgently appealing for information after a man was assaulted and left seriously injured in an assault in Smallthorne. The attack took place in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 5 April 2014) at around 1am in Brown Lee Road, on the junction with Community Drive, Smallthorne. The victim, who has yet to be identified, but is believed to be a local man aged between 40 and 50, is in a critical, but stable condition and is being cared for at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. Said local policing team commander, Martin Brereton: This attack has left a man fighting for his life. Were trying to establish his identity at the moment and any help from the local community would be very much appreciated. We also need your urgent help to find and bring to justice those responsible for this vicious attack and I would particularly appeal to residents living near to where the incident happened and anyone else who might have information to come forward and call us on 101. Theres a significant police presence at the scene of the incident and some local roads are cordoned off due to the ongoing investigation. I would apologise for any inconvenience this may cause local people but hope you understand the circumstances. Detectives will be carrying out door-to-door inquiries this morning and local community officers are in the area to support the investigation and reassure local residents. If you do have any information please call us immediately on 101.
