URGENT ! I have some overseas students working for me part-time. Theyre about to get screwed by the college they were studying in. Basically their course leader has been off sick and their coursework hasnt been completed properly. Nobody at the college knows whats going on and the students have been told they have 3 days to complete it or return home on monday with no qualifications and they will also lose the £6,400 they have paid in fees. Im told the amount of work required is impossible to complete in 3 days, specially without guidance and teaching staff. I think for the college to be able to deny responsibility of the actions of their own course leaders is absolutely ridiculous. Some of these guys have worked really hard to scrape together the money to pay their fees. One of them was nearly in tears when he was explaining the situation to me. Its shocking how helpless and intimidated they feel. I find it disgraceful that they can be treated like cash cows then fobbed off so easily. I remember a similar thing happened to some guys a few years ago and I never really paid attention. However, I feel compelled to do something about it now but I dont know where to start. Does anyone know how the system works? what can be done ? I have suggested they get a lawyer but Im not sure what can be done in 3 days. is there anyone else they can speak to for help or to intervene on their behalf. I dont think the language barrier helps either. Im sure if someone with authority gives the college some grief they could be forced into doing something. please tag anyone you know who could help or post on their page. thanks
