URGENT NEED #3 :: Dec 18, 2014:: Is this an emergency in the sense that someone needs food, heat or lodging? No it is not.!! I am going to post it and let you , our members decide if indeed it is indeed a need worthy of filling while we are on hiatus:: There is a 65 year old man who lives in Parksville, makes it on his own limited income (Social Security) without too much help and suffers from obesity and as a consequence, diabetes . He uses insulin twice each day. His doctor has advised him that if he can lose weight, he may be able to use less insulin and live a lot longer. He has dieted since the summer and, as with many diabetics, he has only lost a few pounds (and he has tried to be so diligent about this, so sad to see him with such poor numbers) , primarily because he does not get the proper exercise. I have encouraged him to WALK but he has a bum hip that bothers him when he goes for long walks. He says if he had a STATIONARY BICYCLE , as he did years ago and was successful with, that might be the key to his success with this weight loss thing. BUT he cannot afford one, cant afford much of anything after he pays his rent, light bill and buys food. SO I am wondering if one of our members might have a stationary bike that is sitting in their home collecting dust, maybe in the garage, closet or basement OR being used as a clothes tree in the bedroom or a book rack in the living room that you would be willing to part with for a very deserving man, who has helped our group with trucking and storage time after time after time !! Please let me know if you can do this, it would mean a lot to him and I am sure there are others a bike of this sort could benefit as well. Thanks Friends and neighbors for helping our friend !
