URGENT NEED FOR A DEFINED THIRD FORCE IN THE EMERGING POLITICAL SCENARIO IN EKITI STATE. As INEC is set to blow the electoral whistle in Ekiti State, political watchers are anxiously imagining how the pendulum will swing. Taking a cursory look at the political nature of the southwest vis a vis the present situation in Ekiti, then, it is pertinent to state that the major denominator in southwest politics is change and this time around a Defined change. In 1999, the yoruba voted in line with Afenifere dictates that even if the group fielded a goat, the goat will win election. Afenifere enjoyed the solidarity of the southwest in view of the pain inflicted by the June 12 crisis which was caused by the bestial and unwarranted annulment of the June 12 Presidential election that was uncontroversially won by Bashorun MKO Abiola, a yoruba man who later died in detention. Afenifere operated under the AD umbrella. In 2003, the southwest decided to effect a change in view of the fact that AD governors were not seen to have performed coupled with; hooking up to the National Grid to bring more resources to the various yoruba states, so, they voted PDP. In 2007, the same thirst for change came up and yorubas decided to switch back to the progressive- the ACN, but in view of the power at Aso Rock, most of the elections were purportedly rigged and what we had was judicial victories which brought in Fayemi in Ekiti, Aregbesola in Osun and Mimiko in Ondo. Now that we are approaching another gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, the general views that currently rent the air is change which is the characteristic political decimal in Ekiti and the reason is just that Ekiti people are yet to have a real Ekiti Government. What we have been having over the years are cosmetic and Foreign government that are packaged and imposed either from Ijebu Igbo, Ota, Lagos and Abuja. We in Ekiti have suffered enough and we have to come out of our shell, get out of our malady of poverty of the mind and put in place a Third Force based on the homebased democracy that would guarantee the residence of our economy and bring prosperity to our land. The need for a third force is imperative in view of the fact that APC and PDP have failed twice having been voted in two times each. The desired third force should be a real third force and not a packaged one; not the one that is coming from the angle and terrain people have already rejected, but a genuine third force that is independent of external forces, that will give Ekiti people the real sense of belonging to run their own government, that will parade a sincerely homebased candidate that understands the terrain, culture and expectations of the people and in deed Ekiti values. In this regard, ACCORD is the platform that has adhered strictly to all these principles without falling into monetary temptations from the normal recurring money bags whose cronies have misgoverned Ekiti to this stage of economic coma. ACCORD is the platform that parades the core values of Transparency, Accountability, Public Participation, Probity and Sincerity of Purpose. ACCORD is the platform that does not believe in deceit or the act of buying the conscience of already vulnerable and economically decimated masses with money, bags of rice and greek gifts just to get their votes and in turn export their resources back to Lagos, Ghana and abroad. The only set of people that can salvage the helpless Ekiti masses are the leaders and elites who should boldly come up and say NO to these incessant maladious foreign invasion that are done covertly or overtly in every dispensation. We have the opportunity now to do the needy and protect the future of our teaming youths that are on the streets jobless. LETS FOR ONCE SAVE EKITI FROM THE CLUTCHES OF POLITICAL MERCHANTS. THE TIME IS NOW! Ifedayo Iyaniwura Director Of Publicity Kole Ajayi Campaign Organisation (KACO)
