URGENT/TIME SENSITIVE PRAIRIE DOG PLACEMENT SITUATION - YOUR PROMPT ATTENTION NEEDED! LOCATION: Outside of MIDLOTHIAN, TEXAS (SW of Dallas). Please help spread the word and feel free to share this announcement in various email communities and social networking channels and contact Gena Seaberg by PRIVATE MESSAGE ONLY or BY PHONE AT 425.870.1729 for more details! THANK YOU! Please meet Professor. He is a 2013 unaltered male prairie dog. He is looking for a new forever home due to a significant life change for his current caretaker that is happening soon. This isn’t a decision that comes lightly because they are completely in love with him but worry that they will be able to find the time to interact with him as much as is necessary when you have a solitary male and they know that ideally, he will do best long term and live a happier and healthier life in a home with another male prairie dog which is just not feasible with the changes that are coming for their family. Right now Professor is a bit moody due to the hormonal situation in his home and he can be a bit aggressive with the male caretaker but is sweet to the female caretaker. This placement will be managed carefully to ensure that his future caretaker(s) are committed, loving, and knowledgeable about what it takes to be his forever home. He has no known health concerns. There is no fee for his placement and his caging, accessories, and a limited transition supply of his current diet will come with him to make his transition as smooth as possible. Behaviorally, as stated above, Professor is a bit rutty and that is accentuated due to triggering hormones that are elevated at present. He is very lovable with the female caretaker but can be a bit aggressive with the male caretaker due to sometimes being permitted to conduct hand pounce play which can go wrong and escalate when hormones are onboard. I do NOT recommend hand pound play with prairie dogs as they work in a hierarchal nature and when you engage in the hand pounce play with them, you are telling them that they are equal to you in status and you can challenge one another for hierarchy which you should always maintain an alpha position for long term success. If the new person follows bathroom protocol correctly, he will adjust quickly and be the gem we know he is if in the right setting. He can be very sweet but will take one-on-one time to build a bond with a new caretaker. While he has had work done with him, Professor will initially require consistent bathroom time one-on-one daily to form a close bond. Anyone taking him can expect a bit of behavioral regression as he adjusts and establishes new bonds with a new caretaker. I can assist with the bonding and any gradual integration process (if he happens to join any established prairie dogs in a home) once a strong caretaker bond is formed. Understand that this small regression is normal as he needs to establish trust again and that doesn’t happen overnight, but they all go through this process. Additionally, I’d also be available to partner with the nutritional migration that is required as he has been mostly on an optimal diet throughout his life and only some very minor modifications are required. He will NOT be placed in a mixed gender prairie dog home unless under special circumstance where the experience level of the owner warrants and/or where they could be separated if there are a pair of females to be in their own group for two separate groups as rut season approaches (e.g. two caging situations - a male group/female group). Further details can be discussed with interested parties directly through private message. I hope that together we can find him a great home and someone that will adore him and dedicate themselves to making sure he has a happy forever home. Please spread the word and accept my sincere gratitude to all that we can work together to find Professor new adventures where he will be loved, healthy, and happy!!!!
