URGENT!!! The actvist in me had been feeling a little frustrated that my body wasnt present at all our anti-fracking protests back home in the UK this past year, so the universe has given us our own VERY SERIOUS AND URGENT battle right here in Ibiza, with the evil oil giants that are ruining our beautiful planet. Very sneakily, the central Spanish government in Madrid has given the go ahead for Scottish company Cairn, the ones who went into the delicate artic to drill for oil, to build an oil platform just off the coast of Ibiza. But first there will be months of seismic blasts at the ocean floor to survey, which, as you can imagine will be harmful, distressing and potenially deadly for all the marine life situated within a 1000k of the blasts, including whales, dolphins and turtles who use this stretch of water for migration routes. NO ONE WANTS THIS but as usual, the people affected have had very little say. The environmental impact for the island will potentially be devastating. See the attached links for information on what is going on and to help stop it. THERE IS SOMETHING WE CAN DO. They have made it difficult to protest, but by printing off 3 copies of the petition (the attached article has links in English and the address to send the signed forms) and sending together with a photocopy of your passport, you dont need to be in Spain to protest. And this is the only way to get Madrid to hear our voices. HURRY! We need 30,000 signatures before the end of the month in order to get the government to stop and investigate the real dangers. There will be mass protests and an opportunity to sign this Saturday in Ibiza Town (Vara de Ray 11am to 5pm). I, and pretty much everyone on the island, I hope, will be there. PLEASE HELP US! saveibiza/2013/09/spoilt-for-choice-oil-platforms-or-tourism-paradise/ ibiza-spotlight/magazine/2014/01/ibiza-says-no-oil-drilling
