URGENT UPDATE: A decision will be made soon regarding the execution of seven of our brothers, Iran. The families of seven Sunni political prisoners on death row in Iran have been told to expect a decision about their execution soon. According to reports, the Head of Tehrans Judiciary, Syed Ali Reza Avayi, informed the families that a decision about the execution will be made next week. The families were informed today that six of the men, Shahram Ahmadi, Talib Malaki, Behrouz Shah Nazari, Kaveh Vaisi, Kaveh Sharifi and Mokhtar Rahimi, were being held in solitary confinement in Evin prison, northwestern Tehran. One prisoner, Arash Sharifi, is being held in Kashan Central Prison, Isfahan province. The news follows conflicting information released by the Ministry of Intelligence regarding the location of the men, with the families being unable to contact them since they were transferred from Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj. The men are not allowed visitors or phone calls to their families. In an exception, during a single phone call each, Behrouz Shah Nazari and Kaveh Sharifi confirmed to their families that they are being held in solitary confinement in Evin prison. The six men who are detained in Evin prison are kept in solitary cells for 24 hours a day. They are not allowed any form of contact with their families. Sources say they are being held in solitary confinement to prevent them from talking to the outside world about their condition. The remaining political prisoner, Arash Sharifi, is reportedly held in a ward with dangerous prisoners convicted of violent offences such as murder. Arash is only 24-years old, and, as a political prisoner, there are worries about his safety being housed with violent prisoners. There are at least 26 Sunni political prisoners facing execution in Iran. The men were all active in propagating Sunni Islam within their communities, and it is alleged that they were arrested due to their open criticism of the Iranian regime. The men were all tortured, with many forced to confess to false charges. [An important point to note is that in Iran the working-week begins on a Saturday and ends the following Friday. This means that the decision is expected to be made during the week beginning Saturday 26th of October.]
