URICHINDERE. The last time I shared someones comments after hed read the book, it motivated someone else to go out and get it. And when she was done, she sent me this message, which (with her kind permission) I share with you. Thanks Adaeze Mona-lisa. We have more stories in common that we know in this country. I thought this past weekend was going to be a boring one because I was home alone and no friends to hang out with but then I was in for a huge surprise because Urichindere took me on an exciting Journey. A good book transports you to another world that you never thought existed or one you have lived or one you just imagine. What drew me to Urichindere was the tone it was written in so I knew I was in for a humorous good read. This book will make you laugh and it will bring tears to your eyes. This is because as a reader you can relate with most of the events that took place in the book. Urichindere brought back memories of my experiences in the boarding house. For instance when Mac Jimmy urinated into the bucket and then spat into each plastic bottle. I didnt do any of those but my friend Bola did. The one I did once was to pour sand and cow dung into a Seniors water (lol).I also remember Kpakoflakes which we called Biscuit flakes. I cant even eat that now cos I and lots of milk arent good friends anymore. I also remember stepping on a seniors toes and she marked me cause her boyfriend dumped her and started asking me out. She didnt take that well so we became enemies and she made my life a living hell, same way Temlong dealt with Pips McQueen. I didnt actually do what Pips did but I started going to preps with her ex just to get her more upset not like I liked the boy but thats the power of Malice. She repeated and we became class mates and that was enough revenge. Lol. Seriously if you were a boarder you will love this book because I think almost every junior had a Temlong and a friend like Mac Jimmy. I also wrote my names on walls and desks for posterity. In Urichindere I learned more about Family Bonds, Culture, Death, Relationships, Friendship, Love, Power of Dreams, Heartbreak, Determination, Military rule, Betrayal and Deceit etc. The setting of Urichindere is during the Military regime so you get to feel and understand how people lived in fear before Democracy was attained. What even makes this book dear to me is the Diction. You dont need to use your dictionary, or even if you do need it at some point you wont need to be checking for meanings of words every minute. This is because the Diction used is simple and easy to understand. Even though slangs were used in the book, the author explained each one of them. African proverbs are well used in this book. My personal favorite is Mgbede Ka-eji a ma dike (it is only tribulation that reveals strength). Figures of speech are also well used. Then the author wrote about the way Africans view the age factor: You see, age is a very important thing in Africa. Because you were born even one day before someone, you are supposed to be one day ahead of them in anything in life, all the time. This is so true. There are lots of quotes I love in this book. Like the following: You can not unlove once you have truly loved. Sometimes, friendship is better than love, because love is what people want but friendship is what they need. I cant even write all the quotes I love in Urichindere because I will write another page. All I can say is Dike, you held me spell bound this past weekend. I just didnt want the book to come to an end, I read each page with patience. You are a master in story telling. The book was worth my time. Thanks for being a blessing to the world. Now, this is a writers true reward. Not that I will reject it if you pay money into my account. But - this is a writers true reward.
