URP_will_not_expel_Rutto, says MP Duale URP leaders at the weekend appear to soften their stand to expel the Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto for supporting the push for referendum against the wishes of the party. The leaders said ejecting the Council of Governors chairman will depict the party as undemocratic and unwilling to accommodate dissenting voices from other members. National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale, Kericho Senator Charles Keter, MPs Johana Ngeno (Emurua Dikirr) and Joseph Limo (Kipkelion East) said the party demands that the governor be held accountable and face the Senate committee to explain how he used Sh185 million in Bomet county. They were speaking at Rongena Secondary School during the opening of the school’s dining hall in Narok West on Saturday. Also in attendance was Narok Senator Stephen Ntutu, Narok West MP Patrick Ntutu and womens representative Soipan Kudate among other leaders. “One of the core pillars in URP is accountability and kicking out the rebel governors is not an issue in the party because we have mechanisms of holding them responsible,” Duale said. The Garissa Township MP said Rutto is free to exercise his democratic right but he should not portray URP as a failed party and unwilling to serve Kenyans. Duale defended Deputy President William Ruto against claims he is undermining devolution, saying the Bomet governor and Cord are using the referendum push for political mileage. “Rutto with governors Jack Ranguma (Kisumu), William Kabogo (Kiambu), Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Nathif Jama (Garrissa) have no otherwise but to explain to Kenyans how they used the taxpayers’ money because the money does not belong to their families,” Duale said. He accused Rutto and Narok Deputy Governor Evalyn Aruasa of being disrespectful to the party by going against the party’s decision on the plebiscite push and by campaigning for other parties’ agendas. Duale said governors and Cords call for a vote will fail and Jubilee has nothing to worry about since 27 county assemblies were rallying behind them. Keter said talks of throwing out rebel leaders is irrelevant and are only meant to distract the party from serving Kenyans.
