URRKN Members and Supporters, It is said that animal lovers are gifted with an enormous heart and a huge capacity to love and cherish the fur that inhabits our lives. We are givers and many of us have dedicated much time and finances to eliminate the homeless pet problem. Here at URRKN our goal is to allow everyone to become a part of getting kitties home, furrever homes at that. Our desire to give and to support those who do the work also opens us up to be taken advantage of. That said it is always a surprise and unexpected when we discover that not everyone is honest with what is presented to URRKN and its membership. It is our intent to always present the stories and events of kitties getting home so you can cheer and help them get there. We have networked with many shelters, rescues and people who make it their mission to save kitties. So it is with great sadness that we must share this information and let you know how we all were misled. Many of you might remember the story of George & Heather; they were a pair of bonded kitties originally set to travel the rails in September of last year. Health issues caused the transport to be postponed until late October, but shortly before the October departure date, the transport request was withdrawn and we were told that they would be flying with their fosters, rather than riding the rails. However, George and Heather never reached their destination, and we were led to believe that they had been taken by their foster. Eventually we were told they had been found and we re-launched the transport for last month, but again were told there were health issues. Finally the story started to unravel, maybe we should have been less trusting to begin with but it is hard to suspect those you call an ally in rescue. First it was brought to our attention that the Silver Cloud Special Cat Sanctuary had a death of an older resident named Mitchell. https://drive.google/file/d/0Bwf6NDA1PIvuRVlVSnp6a19UMmc/edit?usp=sharing Then we found that Mitchell was actually Lenny the Gassy Cat: https://shine.yahoo/pets/smelly-cat-returned-parents-claim-farts-time-194900289.html More digging found our worst fears about George & Heather to be true. Here is the event picture of George that SCSCS gave to the adopter and URRKN and we have used for the last several months. https://drive.google/file/d/0Bwf6NDA1PIvuUUtuMXExZWRaaGM/edit?usp=sharing It was then found that George was actually a kitty named George Burns who was “adopted and released to his new owner on June 23, 2013 from Whatcom Humane Society in Bellingham Washington” He was adopted by a young lady named Heather who even has him posted on her page. We are deeply sorry to Jen Savage who has spent months waiting for George & Heather to come home to finally learn they are not real. We understand you will all have many questions and we wish that we could answer them all. What we have presented are all the facts we have found to this point. We felt this was more than enough to warrant the action we took. We do encourage you investigate further if you are giving to this organization or plan on helping in any way. URRKN’s resources are limited and will be directed toward our mission and not to pursue this further.
