US Bank would not let my wife, who had my social security number, - TopicsExpress

US Bank would not let my wife, who had my social security number, deposit cash into my account because although she had my security number and her license showing her last name, she did not have my account number. They said its for security reasons. I needed that deposit to go through on todays business day, so I leave work early and rush across town to the 72nd and Dodge branch. I test this theory out by going to the teller and telling her that all I had was my SSN and gave it to her verbally. Did not show her a card. She said it was fine. I asked if it really was ok that I had nothing else. She confirmed that it was. I make my deposit and get a receipt with my account number printed on it. I see a nice bank associate named Morgan. I tell her I am confused that my wife was denied, but when I gave the exact same info, I was not. She said I should talk to the bank manager Chris. The bank manager comes over to me and I say hello, Chris and extend my hand for a shake. He does not shake it, nor does he acknowledge my greeting or my name. He tells me their policy is the customer needs A bank card, or photo ID if they do not know the account number. I explain my experience to him and he tells me that that the teller should be trained better. I tell him I have used just my SSN at this bank several times as well as other banks all over the U.S. when I toured and traveled. He says its because I am a man. That since my wife was clearly not a man, they could not even tell her that I had an account with them. Hold on. Pause. I say I appreciate your banks policy to protect the security of my account. I just want it consistent. So the consistency is in gender? If any man walks up with my SSN, he can have access to my account, but my wife can not. I remind him there are a lot of men in the world and only one me. What prevents them from getting into my account. He says if it was a man with the matching social security number he would complete the transaction. I ask him what if I was transgendered? He says, I refuse to go there with you. I ask why. He says it has nothing to do with the situation or policy. I assure him, I am not trying to shock, and am not taking it lightly. I seriously want to know how they determine these type of situations. He says, I will not go there. You are a man. I tell him gender in all of its varied possibilities does indeed have everything to do with this. He is telling me they admitt or deny based on gender. He tells me in his 18 years this question has never come up. I tell him it should have. And now it has. He has shut down and will not work with me further. I ask for the district managers contact info. Left a message for a Kevin From. Interested to hear what he has to say.
