US THANKSGIVING DAY: The Making of a Hollow Ritual. So much noise is being made about the US Thanksgiving Day, when much has been forgotten about its originality and basis. The same class of people that sought to remove the Christ from Christmas have succeeded pretty much in removing the God from the original declaration of “Thanksgiving to God.” Removing the GOD from that phrase renders the ceremony hollow. In the declaration for thanksgiving made the by the Continental-Confederation Congress – the body that governed the United States between 1774-1789 (November 5, 1782), the body held inter alia: “Do hereby recommend it to the inhabitants of these States in general, to observe and request the several states to interpose their authority, in appointing and commanding the observation of THURSDAY the TWENTY-EIGHTH DAY OF NOVEMBER next as a day of SOLEMN THANKSGIVING to GOD for all His mercies; and they do further recommend to all ranks to testify their gratitude to God for His goodness by a cheerful obedience to His laws and by promoting, each in his station, and by his influence, the practice of true and undefiled religion, which is the great foundation of public prosperity and national happiness.” What do we say here? The founding Fathers of the United States knew the deal they made with God. They knew better how God kept His own part of the deal. These deals had to do with how the early immigrants were faced with extermination by hunger and environmental hazards. How they prayed got answers in ways that could not but be divine interventions. They knew their war of independence and how God intervened and many other “hands of God” in the milestones of the nation’s history. It was these same people that gathered, made, ordain and gave unto themselves a constitution that acknowledged a creator in its first sentence. This same nation today is pulling down the very covenants they made with God: pulling down the Ten Commandment in every government institution, striking off prayers from public gatherings and more, celebration gay life, endorsing infanticide in the name of “choice.” “Thanksgiving” without “God” becomes a hollow ritual and loses its significance. However, I urge believers – all people of faith, to restore this covenant, by always doing the right thing. Never to stop at just saying Thanksgiving but “Thanksgiving to God.” Therein lies its value, its significance and its originality. If you think it is long just say “TG” that sound better and shorter than “Thanksgiving” On this solemn note I wish all truthful Americans, Happy “DAY of THANKSGIVING to GOD!” or “HDTG” as we pray to restore the Christian foundation of this Gods own country.
