US experienced in the Gulf weapon of the future. US military arsenal is constantly updated with technological advances. One of fresh reinforcements of this kind is called LaWS - laser weapon system - and is a gun, shooting directed energy. The prototype system is currently installed on the ship of the US Navy in the Persian Gulf Ponce and tested. In addition to direct gun (high-power infrared solid-state laser), the system also includes a computerized tracking station and guidance. Once installed on a warship, the system allows to neutralize the threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles, small boats and submarines. Installation of 30 kW shoots on purpose directed beam with a diameter of only 2-3 nm. Power is also amenable to adjustment, which allows not to destroy the target, but only blind it. However, the main advantage of the new weapon is in other planes: the cost of a single shot from the laser gun less than a dollar, while the missiles to shoot at the same targets are hundreds of thousands of dollars.
