US hung tough, as tough as you can, vs Iran ( the World champs last year). A few things stood out to me - I was happy Bergman did not get tfd by Reza Yazdani but I was absolutely shocked that Bergman got hit with Yazdanis favorite set up....multiple times. Yazdani is a lefty, he prefers his opponent to be a righty, he steps on the lead leg from same side lead and then attacks (singles). Bergman was, or so it seemed, to be unaware of this tactic, that the multiple time World Champ uses in every event he enters. Im hoping the coaching staff was aware and JD was thrown off the game plan somehow - but it would be inexcusable if the coaching staff and JD did NOT know abt Yazdanis set up for his same side singles. I mean, even the commentator was oblivious, even though Yazdani did the same set up three times successfully on JD. We have to be better than that if we expect to compete vs the Worlds Elite - such as Yazdani. The commentator also mentioned that JD looked taller than Reza, I hope he was joking....Reza is the shortest guy in the weight World Wide...I hope the commentator knew that prior to the wrestlers walking on the mat. I was surprised Dlagnev lost, he did beat his Iranian opponent before. They have actually beaten each other. Metcalf was clutch in his comeback victory. JB is back to being JB...beat the World Silver medal winner 7-1. How abt Clayton Foster?! He had the biggest win in the dual by beating the World Bronze medal winner , Lashgari - a real stud. Nice work by the former Cowboy. Nick Marable , who recently beat JB, lost again in this dual. He had a couple losses this weekend. Overall, Iran beat us 6-1 last year ( JB the only win) so we are showing some promise. I was hoping to see Varner in the US lineup vs Yazdani, they did not meet at the Olympics in 2012.
