US lawmakers: Add Berlin to ‘Five Eyes’ b4in.org/aex The US desires to add Germany to the Five Eyes Club, while it has spied on German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Congressmen want the US government to add Germany to the list of its four other spying allies, making Berlin a sixth eye in the Five Eyes club. The club is comprised of the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Britain. The five English-speaking countries have been sharing intelligence for decades. Republicans Tim Ryan and Charles Dent wrote a letter to President Barack Obama, dated November 6, and demanded the president “essentially enters into negotiations to strike an agreement extending the Five Eyes Intelligence Pact and include Germany”. Dent said it would be a good sign of friendship should Obama ask for Germany membership in the pact. “Things like surveilling or spying on leaders of each other’s countries would not be allowed,” the Pennsylvania politician said, noting “but it would just further extend an already strong relationship.” Even some Democrats have the same opinion, as Massachusetts Representative William Keating has said, “I think it’s something that would be beneficial”. more b4in.org/aex
