US president Barack Obama sends a message to the Libyan people on the Independence Day ************************************** To the Libyan People: Please accept my best wishes as you celebrate Libyas 63rd year of independence on December 24. I want to reaffirm our commitment to a robust partnership with Libya. The United States admires the Libyan peoples fortitude in addressing the challenges of rebuilding your nation after 42 years of dictatorship. I share your vision of a Libya that is free, prosperous, secure, inclusive, and democratic, as my government continues to support Libyas transition. The United States and Libya share many common interests, most notably ensuring the peace, prosperity, and security of your country. Only through an inclusive political process can Libya establish the stable state institutions necessary to address the needs of the Libyan people and to represent their interests to the wider international community. We commend all those patriotic Libyans who understand the importance of a dialogue that builds a house of principles in which all Libyans can dwell, and who continue to make great sacrifices for the sake of a productive political consensus. We continue to condemn the terrible suffering of all in Libya caused by the current violence. The United States, alongside our partners in the international community, remains fully committed to working with you in your courageous efforts to build a stable, prosperous, and peaceful Libya. Sincerely, Barack Obama
