US study: Tomatoes help prevent prostate cancer, nourishes mens’ ‘cherry tomatoes’ October 18, 2014 12:26pm 992 33 0 1056 Eating healthy diets have been known to help men go from flaccid to full mast—but did you know that adding tomatoes to the mix can also help the back-end remain healthy? GMA 7s Unang Balita on Friday referenced studies from the University of California - Los Angeles, indicating that tomatoes can help prostates remain healthy. It also said that lycopene from tomatoes helps decrease the size of tumors, especially when eaten raw. UCLA wrote that a lycopene beadlet-enriched diet suggests significant chemopreventive activity, meaning lycopene beadlets help decrease the incidence of prostate cancer. Health food site Foods 4 Better Health advised prostate cancer survivors to eat tomatoes, citing another study from the University of Illinois to illustrate their point. The state of the prostate is often ignored by most men—until cancer strikes, and even then, the Department of Health (DOH) is having a hard time encouraging Filipino men to seek medical help. A program called Oncourage was launched in 2013 to help men fight this disease by raising awareness and creating a safety net for cancer victims and their families. Free prostate exams were also offered by the DOH and Philippine Urological Association to help men catch the signs of cancer early before it gets worse. — Rie Takumi/VC, GMA News gmanetwork/news/story/384125/lifestyle/healthandwellness/us-study-tomatoes-help-prevent-prostate-cancer-nourishes-mens-cherry-tomatoes
