USA Freedom Act would have curbed powers granted to the NSA under the Patriot Act and was voted down this week. one common misconception is that the Patriot Act applies mainly to foreigners -- the Patriot Act was instituted precisely to widen the surveillance laws to include US citizens among other powers that along with NDAA allow complete control over the population, all industries, virtually every aspect you can think of. if they really wanted to do something for stopping spying on u.s. citizens, the solution is easy, do not reissue it. These patriots vote it back in again, over and over, the truth is they will never give up the powers the Patriot Act has given them, it is their ace in the hole. they didnt spend those billions of dollars on fusion centers, equipment, etc. in every state and the central hub monster computer facility in Utah for something temporary or to spy on, track, just foreigners, terrorists. it gives the powers that be ultimate control for however they decide to use it for good or bad.NOTE: many of the provisions of the Act relating to electronic surveillance were proposed before September 11th, and after that fateful day the bill passed the house 357 to 66 and D Russ Feingold was the only Senator to vote against the Act in 2001. lol and obama campaigned on promising no spying on u.s. citizens etc. but instead has helped expand it,he signed NDAA into law.
