USAID welcomes art exhibition to heal war wounds If the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso created Guernica as an anti-war statement, South Sudanese are using art to heal the wounds of war. In a country where illiteracy is very high, USAID is supporting a community of artists to relieve traumatic experiences through painting. The paintings will be compiled into a picture book with messages that will be translated into some nine South Sudanese languages. The tracks will be used in the communities to transmit peace messages as well as heal trauma and build resilience. Today the artists exhibited their works at the USAID office compound, and the reception was overwhelming. Photo: Victor Lugala/USAID.
