USAs Top 53 kilo Youth Lifter Kaija Bramwell hitting a Personal Record in the Power Clean & Push Jerk with 75 kilos. We use Power Cleans to work on Speed and Full Extension. It also allows the athlete to unload from the heavier weights they will typically use in the Clean. We incorporate Push Jerks with Power Cleans to work on Upper Back Strength and Vertical Decent Speed as opposed to just performing the Split Jerk. Flexibility to hold the Barbell in the Push Jerk position will carry over nicely into the Split Jerk. Even though she is not a Push Jerker we perform these movements to enhance athleticism. Stronger more athletic athletes can have a very close correlation between their Split Jerk and Push Jerk (10-15 kilos). Being a well rounded lifter is critical to a long healthy lifting career. We like to refer to this concept as Strong in all Positions, No Weak Points.
