USP Public Lecture A public lecture on the economic and social development of the special autonomous region of Papua, Indonesia Sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, Fiji and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in partnership with the School of Government, Development and International Affairs, Faculty of Business and Economics, University of the South Pacific. This is an opportunity to hear first-hand about the reforms, developments and the self-autonomy processes taking place in the Papuan provinces of Papua and West Papua in the Republic of Indonesia. The purpose of the lecture is to create awareness and informed debate about the Papuan provinces but also foster constructive engagement with the duly elected representatives in the national, provincial and local governments of the special autonomous region. It is estimated that 11-12 million people of Melanesian heritage live in the Indonesian archipelago ranging from the South Philippines to Timor Leste and Papua. This engagement builds on the momentum to foster closer collaboration and socio-economic exchanges with the MSG Community in the Pacific. The panel of speakers consist of two Former Papua activists and current Senior Advisers at the Coordinating Ministry for Legal, Political and Security Affairs, a First Vice-Chair of Representatives of the Papua Peoples Assembly and the Chancellor of the State University of Papua.
